Disclosures

Naturally occurring toxins

Bumblebee jasper is toxic in its raw or powdered form because it contains sulfur and arsenic sulfides (like realgar). However, polished and finished display pieces or jewelry are generally safe to handle under normal conditions, provided you wash your hands afterward and never ingest or lick the stone. Polished pieces do not readily release toxins through casual skin contact, but it is still wise to avoid prolonged, sweaty skin contact with unsealed or damaged stones. NEVER MAKE A CRYSTAL ELIXIR using this cabochon as the stone contains water-soluble calcite and toxic minerals that can leach harmful elements into the liquid.
